: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy. Fonfon is fine and out of his quarantine. Surely the other cats were exposed to the viral rhinotracheitis from sharing the food bowl and water fountain in the days before clinical symptoms and in the about 12h between me noticing him sneezing before going to sleep, then waking up and running errands, then coming back home and seeing him full of secretion in his eyes and nose and then isolating him, but thankfully no other cat was affected by it, whatever viral load they got was small enough for their immune systems to take care of - they got their immunizations recently (Fonfon probably caught it because of whatever he had the week before [probably intoxication] that caused leukopenia), but there are a few cats we no longer vaccinate, like Dona Lupa who's too weak, and Saibot whose last two vaccinations formed a very weird granuloma and I was terribly afraid it was a sarcoma.
: We have been giving Dona Lupa a low phosphorous wet food, it's made of apple, chia and algae, everything cats love (somehow, they do like it :S) but she hasn't been eating lately and she is so skinny. The problem with Dali † was that we gave him Churu first (the most expensive brand) and he got hooked and wouldn't eat anything else, for Lupa we started giving her Sheba, which besides being cheaper, also has lower phosphorous, and she is loving it. I already ordered a box.
: Twice I caught Zaza inside - and she left the moment she saw me. She learned how to use the kitchen window to enter, now the only black cat that doesn't get a free pass to come inside is Lud. The orange cats are claiming racism.
: Fonfon's PCR with the blood sample he took Saturday showed nothing, so probably it was some intoxication. However, last night he started sneezing, today he had a runny nose and secretion in his eyes. I already isolated him in one of the rooms downstairs, cleaned all food bowls and water fountains, and started the treatment for rhinotracheitis. I hope it didn't spread already to other cats.
: Fonfon is back home and he is fine. Today is also the last day of Dona Lupa's treatment, no idea what the infection was, but she is fine now.
: Fonfon sleeps in my room but stays outside during the day. Last night around 22:00 he still hadn't shown up so I started calling for him and he didn't show up so I went looking. He was at the laundry room and it was odd because he doesn't like other cats nor the dogs and I never saw him there before. I picked him up and took him to my room. Around 01:00 when I was going to sleep he was in the middle of the bed and I moved him to the side and he barely moved, he was too lethargic so I did my general checking: First pay attention to the breathing to see if it's ok - hard breathing can mean tons of stuff and they are all bad. Second check the mucous membrane color, the easiest way is checking the color of the gums, but if your cat, like Fonfon, has dark gums, you gotta pull down the lower eyelid and check the color of the conjunctiva - it should be pinkish. If it's white then the pet is anemic. Red can mean inflammation and infection. Yellow the pet is icteric and probably is having some liver problem. Blue it's cyanotic, which means it's lacking oxygen in its blood. Third smell the breath - a rotten breath is infection, and on severe kidney failure you will be able to smell the urea on the breath too. Fourth is checking the whole body for swellings, that could mean a bite or sting from a venomous animal, and also gently pressing each part of the body to see if it's having pain in any region, the pet will react to the touch. Fifth lift the skin at the back of the cat's neck to check its hydration - it should snap back quickly, if it returns slowly, the cat may be dehydrated. All of those checking you can do without any equipment, Fonfon aced all of them, so I took his temperature and it was 39.5 ºC, which is fever but for an elderly cat it's not that high (threshold at 39.3 ºC) so as everything else was fine I decided to wait until the morning and took him to the clinic at 08:00. His fever was 39.8 ºC already, the veterinary also did the pupillary light reflex test and noticed some neurological issue (I didn't do that test at home, but surely I'm adding it to my list now). His blood test and ultrasound all came excellent, so we suspect it was some intoxication or perhaps infectious disease, but it's Saturday and the lab that does the PCR test for viral infections is closed for weekends. Fonfon is spending the day under observation at the clinic.
: We got the pets their annual multivalent shot last April. Because of the number of pets we gotta pay in installments, and we were going to give them the rabies shot this month, but we found fleas (hadn't had any in years), so we had to buy flea medicine instead. So today we bathed the dogs, cleaned all the pets' mats, blankets, bedding, and cushions, and gave them the flea treatment. Hopefully the rabies shot next month. Raposinha had run away and spent a day outside a week or so ago, but I suspect it might be Dona Lupa bringing fleas from when she goes to the clinic. Gonna keep her flea treatment up to date... trust me, gotta act quick when finding fleas, we had infestations before and it's a nightmare.
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy. She got some infection in her mouth and we started treating it.

: Today Lupin got a big ugly cut on his leg, I was cleaning and applying rifamycin but it got worse because he kept licking it. That's it, time for the cone!
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: The cold is here! Today I picked up tons of cardboard boxes from stores to cover the floor and create more barriers to better insulate the places they sleep.
: Neblina decided to sleep in the Boy's Club tonight.
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: For other reasons we had to skip a week of Dona Lupa's IV Fluid therapy.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: Vaccination Day! My vet came here to give everyone their yearly immunisations. Zezé, Tri and Chica vanished, though - I gave them their shots myself later (gotta find their new hiding places).
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: An opossum got into my garage pergola rafters and was surrounded by my cats, it was very scared and I had to tear a hole in the polycarbonate cover for it to leave.
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy.
: Just received Dali's † urn. Yes, we kept his ashes. He was that special.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: Lupin has lost one of his white "bigodes" (whiskers), so now he is back being unigode.
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy.
: Jojo is always waiting for me at the front door and rubbing against my legs until I open it, but after raiding the food she tries to stay around, she goes to play with something and be cutesy, or goes back to rubbing against me... we tried to resist as long as we could, but she got her citizenship and now she is part of the Inner Party. Petra, who used to be the Queen of the Living Room, had enough of this, because everywhere she would try to sit there would be some immigrant occupying it already, and now she has moved to the Elder Council.
: Had to make the call. Before the vet arrived he asked me for milk and drank a lot of it, and I'm so happy he was satisfied, with a belly full after not eating for two days. Yesterday he was in pain and wanted to be alone, but today he was sitting with us on the sofa and being petted. His last moments were happy. Goodbye Dalizinho †, you were very special.
: It's Dog Food Day!
: Tutu is always following me around, and when I go to sleep and call my crew, he came a few times too, but I didn't let him in because my bed is already crowded and they all get grumpy when new cats join. Yesterday, though, I had already gathered my crew and he was at my door with such puppy eyes I had to let him in, and there was no disturbance... I was mostly worried about Saibot disapproving, but it was a peaceful night. I guess Tutu is pre-approved to join the Boy's Club.
: Dona Lupa every-14-day IV fluid therapy had to skip a day because the morning of Ash Wednesday is hardly a workday in Brazil, as we are all recovering from Carnaval partying. Dali † had a new blood test... yep, soon were gonna have to make the call. I was also going to take more pictures of Lupin to start his profile, but we haven't neutered Zaza yet and she is in heat again and all the males are after her all day long - despite all of them being neutered.
: It seems like Luke is accepting the barbarians better. He has been more playful lately, I even caught him cuddling with Petite and Bonnie.
: Tutu is temporarily banished from the inside. We caught him pissing in the corner. When we scold them we put a lot of emphasis on certain words so they associate that word with what they did. For the next three days he will only watch us through the glass doors and be called Mijão! (pisser boy) if he asks to come in.
: Dali † results are here. To no one's surprise, the cat that has been living basically without kidneys for three years is completely fucked, but still mostly no clinical symptoms. Yesterday he broke his record eating 9 Churus! Anyway, stopping the diuretics, starting some vitamins and supplements.
: Today Dona Lupa is receiving her biweekly (every 14 days) IV fluid therapy. Dali † had a blood test. I'm also making my homemade dog food.
: After a thorax drainage, Dali † is back home, now taking oral diuretics. Tomorrow we're gonna try an X-ray to see what's wrong (previously it didn't show shit because of the fluids). He is fine btw.
: Dali † is hospitalized and receiving an intravenous diuretic to remove fluid from his lungs.
: PAWS OVERLOAD! They are everywhere!
: I chose the font for the title because it looks like my t-shirts, full of little holes made by cats climbing on them.
: Stealing assets like there is no tomorrow. Only thing I did here was the cardboard map and the paws gif (using paws I stole).
: Uh, I didn't think creating this index would have been the easy part... now off to take tons of pictures and select old ones and write over 40 pages!
: Damn hard to take picture of the dogs, when they notice you are looking at them they get up and jump at you.
: I just finished the pages of Dali †, Saibot, Fonfon, Dona Lupa, Zuel, Tati, Petra, Bel, Luke, Emma, Dora, Sing, and Raposinha. That's a third of my pets and also all the ones prior to The Barbarian Invasion, so I'm going to count it as a milestone. I've checked all the pictures I had of them, but I also have about 200 short videos to go through to see what I can use here, and I think I'm going to go through my physical photos and start working on the History page now.
: Having a lot of fun writing Little Stories, I think I'm going to have to create a page just to post pictures of weird animals I have found.
: Finally finished all the history chapters! I will count this as another milestone. I think the site is good enough to be displayed now :)
: I needed some time to come back to this page after Dali †. I miss his grumpiness so much, but mostly, the way he would always look in you in the eyes.
: I'm going to focus on getting more profiles ready and write their stories later. Selecting pictures, updating and tagging the gallery.json is already a lot of work.
: I just reworked all the CSS and JS on the page, everything is very neat now (on this index for now), and I'm implementing an RSS feed as well! (It's actually Atom, but RSS has better brand recognition). I'm also trying to make the page more accessible, so I'm working on tab and screenreader navigation.
